MAN B&W diesel's roots are closely entwined with the early days of the diesel engine through both it's German and Danish branches, respectively MAN and Burgmeister & Wain. Bot hgroups evolved distinctive low speed two-stroke crosshead engine designs before MAN acquired control of B&W in 1980. MAN subsequently discontinued the development of its own loop-scavenged engines at Augsburg and centred all low speed design and R&D operations in Copenhagen, pursuing the refinement of the MAN B&W uniflow-scavenged programme in the shape of the MC series.
It started since then with the L35MC model in 1982 and a six cylinder L60MC engine was introduced in 1983. Since 1982 the full L-MC programma was introduced with bore sizes of 350, 500, 600, 700, 800 and 900 mm. Refinement of new bore sizes and stroke options continued through the 1980s/1990s in line with service experience and market trends. Today the types exist of K (short stroke), L (long stroke) and S (super-long stroke) variations.

Auxilairy engines - 4 stroke engines
A long tradition in medium speed engines was exploited by MAN B&W Diesel to create a generation of 400 mm, 480 mm and 580 mm bore models sharing common design principles. All where launched in 1980s. From 1990s the 32/40 design joined the family which inherited similar features but modified to suit is smaller bore.
As from today our specialism for MAN B&W Auxiliary engines, also known for their four stroke engine model, is bore sizes 160 mm, 230 mm, 270 mm, 280 mm and 320 mm.
Damen Schelde Parts stocks most consumable parts and is able to deliver less common parts within short period. The stock programm contains cylinder liners, pistons, piston rings, fuel equipment such as fuel nozzles, exhaust valves and lots of small parts such as o-rings, gaskets and kits.
