In our workshop in Flushing, the Netherlands, Damen Schelde Marine Services prepared a Sulzer / Wärtsilä RTA 72 U cylinder liner for service. The installation of tubes and dowels is a standard procedure.
Running engines at lower loads reduces the cylinder wall temperature. This might lead to cold corrosion. To reduce the risk of cold corrosion at cylinder liners, we recommend to insulate the liners in order to increase the cylinder wall temperature. For all the cylinder liners we deliver, we calculate the engine NCR and by this we determine if and what length of insulation tubes have to be fitted.
